MEW

GULL's full-foot fin since 1984, easy to use at any level

GULL launched MEW in 1984 as its flagship full-foot fin, and it is still a staple of the line. The ribs are built for the down kick, the part of the stroke where your leg power turns into drive most easily. GULL calls it easy to use at any level, from beginners to veterans. The soft pocket works barefoot or with MEW Boots, for skin diving and scuba alike.

Highlights

A soft pocket that slips on and off

The pocket is made of thin, pliant rubber, so the fins go on and come off easily. Even if this is your first full-foot fin, you get in and out with little effort.

Ribs built for the down kick

The ribs grip the water on the down kick, when power turns into drive most easily. They answer strong kicks and gentle ones, so power divers and occasional divers both get on with them.

A rounded tip that holds the water

The rounded tip holds the water from the start to the end of every kick, right to the very tip, making full use of the rubber's spring for steady drive.

Who it is for

Great for
  • Beginners and divers of every level: GULL calls MEW easy to use from beginners to veterans
  • Divers who want one fin for both skin diving and scuba
  • Divers who go barefoot or wear GULL Mew Boots, Short Mew Boots or Skin Hot Boots
Maybe not for
  • Divers in drysuit boots or other makers' boots: MEW is sized only for bare feet and GULL's own boots; see SUPER MEW XX, the strap fin GULL sizes for dry boots
  • Divers who want a full-foot fin that returns power 1:1 with their kick: GULL recommends SUPER MEW for that

FAQ

What is the difference between MEW and SUPER MEW?

MEW has a soft rubber pocket for bare feet or GULL boots, and GULL calls it easy to use from beginners to veterans. SUPER MEW combines three rubbers in one fin with a quick midsize blade; GULL recommends it for divers who want power that matches their kick, and its size table is for boots only. Still unsure? Ask us on LINE.

How do I pick a size?

Barefoot, go by foot length: XS 22–23 cm · S 23–24 cm · MS 24–25 cm · M 25–26 cm · L 27–28 cm · XL 28–29 cm. With boots, use the boot columns in the table above. GULL says the table is a guide and fit depends on your feet. Between sizes? Ask us on LINE, and you can exchange sizes within 7 days if they are unused and have not been in the water (you cover shipping both ways unless we sent the wrong item or it is faulty).

Can I wear them barefoot, or do I need boots?

Either. GULL makes MEW to be worn barefoot or with MEW Boots; just pick your size from the matching column.

Is it OK for beginners?

Yes. GULL calls MEW easy to use from beginners to veterans. The soft pocket is easy to get into even on your first full-foot fin, and the ribs answer strong or gentle kicks. Watch our review above before you decide.

How heavy are they to travel with?

Each fin weighs 690 g (XS) to 1,025 g (XL), measured on black, and is 515–620 mm long depending on size.
