GULL MANTIS LV vs LVR: Which Mask Is Right for You?
GULL MANTIS LV vs LVR dive masks: size, Comfort Fit seal, lenses, lens tilt and colours as GULL states them, MANTIS 5 and MANTIS, our prices, and who each suits.
GULL MANTIS LV and GULL MANTIS LVR are both 110cc twin-lens dive masks from GULL, and divers often weigh one against the other. The short answer: GULL built MANTIS LVR (Reloaded) from the MANTIS LV with a smaller body, new Comfort Fit Technology silicone that holds the seal when your face moves or you clench a regulator, and amber UV420 CUT AR lenses only. MANTIS LV also comes as a Clear model with Super Clear lenses, and GULL calls it the ideal twin-lens mask for skin and scuba divers.
This guide compares them as GULL describes them on its official English and Japanese sites and in its catalogue. Prices are the prices on our site on 16 October 2026; the product page always has the latest.
MANTIS LV vs LVR: the differences
Both masks: 110cc volume and a 103° × 117° view (vertical × horizontal).
| Model | Lens tilt | Lens | Price on our site |
|---|---|---|---|
| GULL MANTIS LV | 10° | Amber UV420 AR or Super Clear | ฿6,490 |
| GULL MANTIS LVR | 9.5° | Amber UV420 AR only | ฿6,490 |
Volumes are measured with GULL's own method, so compare them within GULL. The lens tilt figures come from GULL's Japanese pages and catalogue, the view figures from the catalogue. GULL's English and Japanese pages give different weights for MANTIS LVR, so we leave the weight out for now.
Size and fit: the main difference
Same volume, and the same view in the catalogue. What really sets the two apart is the mask body and the silicone.
- MANTIS LV: the skirt and strap clip are one piece, with a curled lip that GULL says seals firmly but gently without leaving much of a mark, and soft dampers that ease pressure on the cheekbones.
- MANTIS LVR: GULL made the body smaller than the MANTIS LV, kept the curled lip and soft dampers, and added Comfort Fit Technology silicone. GULL calls it much more than a size scale-down.
The Comfort Fit Technology on MANTIS LVR has four parts, as GULL describes them:
- Reinforced Damper: keeps the skirt edges in place, so water stays out even when your face moves a lot.
- 3D Leak Guard: a three-dimensional inner surface that holds the seal along the laugh lines beside your nose, even when you clench a regulator or snorkel.
- Temple Line: the skirt trim avoids the hairline at your temples, one more guard against leaks.
- Easy-Pinch Nose Pocket: a reworked nose pocket with wider gaps, so you can pinch to equalise, even in thick gloves.
GULL's MANTIS LV page does not mention Comfort Fit Technology. Both masks have a drain skirt that helps push water out when you clear the mask, and GULL's DX Spec buckle, which GULL says you can adjust one-handed, even in thick gloves.
Lens and view
Both are twin-lens masks. The lenses sit close to your eyes and the inner space is small, so your view widens. GULL shaped and tilted the lenses to carry your view down to chest level, where most diving tasks happen.
- MANTIS LV: a 10° lens tilt. GULL says it takes the MANTIS form with less volume and a wider view, up and down and left to right.
- MANTIS LVR: a 9.5° lens tilt. GULL says it keeps the MANTIS LV's wide view and low-volume design, and GULL's catalogue gives both masks the same view: 103° vertical and 117° horizontal.
So by GULL's figures, the smaller body does not cost you any view.
Lens coatings
- Amber UV420 CUT AR (MANTIS LV coloured models, and every MANTIS LVR): GULL says it blocks UV and high-energy visible (HEV) light up to 420 nm, and the amber tint raises contrast underwater. The anti-reflective (AR) coating lets about 95% of light through, against about 92% for a conventional lens (GULL's figures).
- Super Clear (MANTIS LV Clear model only): glass refined by GULL to let the most light through, and on clear silicone it means fewer skirt reflections on the lens.
If you want a clear lens, the only option in this pair is the MANTIS LV Clear model.
Colours
Counted from the colour lists on GULL's English and Japanese pages:
- MANTIS LV: 13 options: 11 on black silicone, Meta Glass White on white silicone, and Clear on clear silicone.
- MANTIS LVR: 12 options: 6 on black silicone and 6 on white silicone.
If you like a white-silicone mask, LVR gives you more choice. Each product page shows every colour with photos.
Prescription lenses
GULL makes one set of ready-made lenses for short sight that fits both MANTIS LV and MANTIS LVR. They are sold per lens, so each eye can have its own correction. For order-made lenses, for short or long sight, GULL shows MANTIS LV among its examples, but the page doesn't name MANTIS LVR. GULL says an order can't be cancelled or changed once received, and finished lenses can't be exchanged. Ask us on LINE before you order and tell us your prescription.
The MANTIS family: MANTIS 5 and MANTIS
GULL says the MANTIS series has stayed popular with divers since 1972, and MANTIS LV takes the MANTIS form. The other two in the family that we carry are classic twin-lens masks with more volume than LV and LVR, and Super Clear lenses in every colour.
- GULL MANTIS 5 · from ฿1,290: the fifth generation of MANTIS, 177cc and 225 g. GULL moved the lenses closer to your eyes, cutting volume by about 12% against MANTIS, and says the view is wider and mask clearing easier. 14 colours: 11 with a silicone skirt and 3 with a rubber skirt (rubber ฿1,290 · silicone ฿2,990).
- GULL MANTIS · ฿3,390: the original MANTIS, a simple, practical design, 202cc and 233 g, in 3 colours.
If low volume comes first, MANTIS LV and LVR are the lowest in the family at 110cc.

FAQ
GULL MANTIS LV or LVR: which is better?
Neither is better for everyone. Both are 110cc, and GULL's catalogue gives them the same view. MANTIS LVR is smaller, has Comfort Fit Technology silicone and comes with amber lenses only. MANTIS LV also comes as a Clear model with Super Clear lenses. Choose the one that seals on your face.
MANTIS LVR is smaller: is the view narrower?
Not by GULL's figures. The catalogue gives both masks 103° vertical and 117° horizontal, and GULL says LVR keeps the MANTIS LV's wide view.
Is there a MANTIS LVR with a clear lens?
No. GULL makes MANTIS LVR with amber UV420 CUT AR lenses only. For a clear lens in this shape, look at the MANTIS LV Clear model with Super Clear lenses.
Does MANTIS LV have Comfort Fit Technology?
GULL lists Comfort Fit Technology for MANTIS LVR; its MANTIS LV page does not mention it. If your mask leaks when you clench a regulator, LVR is the one GULL built that silicone for.
