XL4 OCEA

Recycled and bio-based plastics, made in a solar-powered facility

Apeks calls XL4 OCEA the first of its kind: a regulator made from recycled materials and bio-plastics in a solar-powered facility. Apeks started from the XL4+, reconsidered every material and process, and calls the result the most eco-sensitive scuba diving regulator in the world. In the water you get an over-balanced first stage for maximum performance at depth, a sealed chamber against freezing and a compact second stage. Designed and manufactured in the UK.

Highlights

Over-balanced first stage in lead-free brass

Apeks over-balances the first stage for maximum performance at depth. The body is lead-free brass with trivalent chrome plating, which Apeks says uses less energy than traditional chrome. If the first-stage valve seat is ever damaged, it can be removed and replaced.

Compact second stage, recycled and bio-based

The second stage is compact. Its polymers come from post-consumer recycled waste and from bio-based, non-petroleum sources, and the packaging has no single-use plastic.

Sealed first stage, cold-water certified

A dry chamber keeps water off the first-stage spring to stop freezing, a dust cap keeps out water and debris, and a heat exchanger adds freezing resistance. Apeks lists it as certified for cold-water use (EN250A).

Comfobite mouthpiece + venturi lever

The patented Comfobite mouthpiece reduces jaw fatigue and holds the second stage more comfortably. The venturi lever disrupts the airflow inside the second stage to prevent accidental free flows at the surface.

Who it is for

Great for
  • Divers who want gear with a smaller environmental footprint: Apeks builds it from recycled and bio-based materials
  • Divers who want a compact second stage and a mouthpiece that reduces jaw fatigue
  • Divers who also dive cold water: Apeks lists it as EN250A cold-water certified
Maybe not for
  • Divers who want to adjust breathing effort mid-dive or swap the hose side: Apeks lists neither for this model, so look at the EVX200 or ask us on LINE

FAQ

XL4 OCEA or EVX200: what is the difference?

Both have an over-balanced first stage, EN250A cold-water certification, a Comfobite mouthpiece and a venturi lever, and both are designed and made in the UK. XL4 OCEA is built around recycled and bio-based materials, with a compact second stage and 4 MP ports. EVX200 adds a reversible second stage, a large breathing-effort adjuster, 5 MP ports and two sets of exhaust tees. Still deciding? Ask us on LINE.

DIN or INT: which one should I choose?

It is how the first stage connects to the tank valve, so match the valves you dive with. XL4 OCEA comes in both DIN and INT (yoke). Not sure? Ask us on LINE.

Can I use it in cold water?

Apeks lists it as certified for cold-water use (EN250A), with the environmental dry kit as standard and a heat exchanger for freezing resistance.

How many ports does it have?

Two HP ports (7/16" UNF) and four MP ports (3/8" UNF). The hose is a braided Flexi-hose.
